Traditionally, conservatories were regarded as something of a sunroom in which homeowners could get the most of their garden all year round.
However, as the style of conservatories broadened and their affordability increased, their uses now are limitless and you are as likely to find a cinema screen or snooker table in them now as you are wicker chairs and coffee tables.
Conservatories are extremely flexible spaces and can be used for a variety of purposes from games rooms, to additional lounges and playrooms. Because they are mostly glass, decoration is unnecessary (there’s probably only the external brick wall of your home to paint) which means you have a neutral area in which to play with. It is a good idea, however, to have a use in mind when it comes to the stage of choosing the flooring for your new room to ensure it’s fit for its intended purpose.

Marble tiles, for instance, will look very attractive but are very prone to colour damage which would make them unsuitable in a kitchen area where food stains will be common place.
A good alternative would be granite because of its hard nature and the fact it is highly resistant to liquid stains.
Similarly, if you’re intending your conservatory to be an extension of your garden in which you will be coming in and out during the warmer months, then flooring which is easily cleaned of grass stains and dirt would be best such as natural stone or granite.
If you’ve decided to use your conservatory as a child’s playroom then soft flooring is advisable to minimise injuries from falls.
Cork flooring makes an ideal surface for a child’s play area because it’s soft and spongy, and also warm because it insulates against the cold. Another bonus with cork flooring is the fact it can be easily cleaned once sealed so you can mop up any accidental spills from food and drink.
Whichever floor material you decide on, there’s usually a wide variation of styles and quality so you can choose something to suit your budget.
