At this time of year, it can become your indoor garden through the winter, and since there are plenty of plants which love this atmosphere and the surroundings, you can enjoy gardening on a whole new level.

There are a number of plants which thrive in warm, dry, furnished conservatories. Here is a list of our top five:  

• Citrus trees. Lemons and limes grow well in conservatories, along with miniature orange trees. They won’t grow to be too big and you’ll get a harvest of colourful mini citrus fruits.

• Red climbing lilies. In general climbing plants grow well. You can encourage them to scale the walls and go across the ceiling if you can.

• Yucca plants. These do well in warm conditions and don’t need much water.

• Passion flowers. These are ideal for first-time growers because they are real survivors and are very hardy.

• Aspidistras. This plant has dark green leaves that flop around when it becomes big and looks lovely.

Adding plants and flowers to your conservatory can make a dramatic difference to your space, especially if you’re not afraid to be bold and colourful. Eye-level and taller plants will make the space expand before your eyes, and will transform your indoor/outdoor garden in a far more interesting and enticing area.
